Jealousy, resentment, FOMO and the internet.
There is a whole generation of people who have grown up with internet (I mean kids who don’t remember a time without cellphones and lte) and they have a string of new insecurities (not including the ones passed on to them from the previous generation). This generation gets their news from the internet and their woke twitter mind-set is all about what is trending at the very moment on the internet. What was TV and magazines 20 years back is now instagram and popular websites. Lets not forget that when something came in a magazine everyone read and saw the same thing while the internet only shows you what you want to see (thanks to Google interference and user preferences). So what you may see as cool now (cause all the kids are into it) is very carefully selected by an algorithm which has studied your individual idea of what is cool. You are put into a group of other people who are like minded and the AI decides which group you go in and what you need to see as news, current trend, fashion etc. There is a lot of ‘fear of missing out' looking at what the “others” are doing on their Insta and fb which leads to resentment about our own boring lives. If we need to decide what is cool by looking at what is online remember the number one highest memory space taken up on the internet is 'PORN'. A decade back nobody would admit to watching porn and two decades back you would probably have to go to a very special store to get porn. Now porn is mainstream, I mean I have problems understanding some memes because I would need greater knowledge of pornographic actors, directors, stories and websites to get the joke. In the same way there is drugs where the new kids on the block want everyone to know what drugs they did last weekend so that others could know how hard they are. I mean this is stuff you should actually hide about yourself but you want others to know………, and you know what the rest of the kids actually get jealous that they aren't living that high life. Well ‘you Muthafu*#k@s need jesus’ and I know I know 'ain't nobody got time for that’. I feel every one needs to rethink what is important in their lives and what is important in life itself. Self reflection is hard I know but nothing that is easy is really worth having.
